Look forwards AND Backwards

I don’t know about you, but I know I’ve done it before. Being fixated about what’s in front of me taking in all the new sights and sounds, seeing what’s around the next corner and concentrating on the journey ahead, that I forget to look behind me. Of course I look behind me occasionally for whatever reason, whilst reaching for my drink from my bag or I’ve dropped something, but looking behind me I have found out, can also be as important and looking in front of me.

It may seem daft to say, but have you ever had a moment where you’re watching what’s in front of you being mesmerised by whatever is happening, only to look behind you and go ‘WOW!’, and realise that actually what’s behind you is even better that what’s in front? I know I have.

As a visual story teller, I’m always on the lookout to try and see the images that would best capture and portray a story, not to mention indulge in taking pleasing photographs as a whole such as sunsets for instance. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned the hard way, it’s to also look behind me as well as in front. Just because you are going forwards, doesn’t necessarily mean that’s where the story is taking place.

Remember to look back occasionally. You never know what you may find.
